Gossip is like a marketing incentive… no matter how much you don’t want to buy that TV, the fact that its 25% off just makes you stare at it for hours. It’s tasty, easy and mischievous. Unlike a great sale though, it doesn’t die out easily. Don’t you just get mad when you hear people talk about you? Am sure you are about to say “HELL YES”, but let’s be honest, we like to hear stuff about other people too. If all of us were to simply “mind our own businesses” then what kind of world would that be?? Probably one where the Kardashians don’t really exist??? He he he but really… isn’t it just human nature to love gossip? Personally, I long for those moments when my girlfriend calls me up and the first things she says is “acha nikuambie…” that simple phrase means she’s about to burst with the information she has. My excitement, on the other hand is because the girl knows exactly how to spice up a story. A story as I always say is all about the detail.
There’s a childhood phrase “sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me…”now that a lie. We tend to get scared or feel threatened when a rumor is about us, plus the friends who normally claim you should “brush it off” have no idea what they are talking about. If you ask me, I’d say it’s all evolution. It’s human to judge others. We love to feel in control and power has a way of corrupting even the most “lovely people”. Ever heard of the “Power of the Tongue” Damn right it exists. As we grow up we realize that words have a way of hurting someone. Drawing your hand to hit someone is like stretching your hand to grab a hot stove… you always have the option of pulling back your hand, but opening your mouth to say something mean is like throwing a stone at a friend. You can never run after the stone. I guess what am trying to say is… as much as we love to gossip to have an “Umbea central” moment as my girls and I call it.. We should be careful that what we say isn’t going to necessarily going to break someone’s heart. Of course we’ll talk about your clothes, your man, that weird eye shadow color we saw you buy, how much we just love your new dress, but these are things we can easily forget. We should, however, try not to ruin people’s hearts.
